  • Looking for a fast growing tree?. Well, look no further because this is one of our most popular fast growing trees!. What makes this tree special is its colorful bark. As the tree gets older, the bark peels throughout the tree, displaying the colors that make this tree unique. Newly peeled bark starts with a green color and as it ages, it changes from deep orange, hues of red, orange to even light pink. The tree sheds its bark sporadically hence the multicolor trunk this tree is famous for. Make sure to follow our growing tips below, as we have been growing this tree for many years and know what works and what doesn't work.

  • Rainbow Eucalyptus growing tips:

  • Best time to plant: When night temperatures are at least 50f consistently and expected to rise for at least the next 3 months. (Late spring to late summer) for most places.

  • Sun: Full sun all day long. It tends to grow slow when planted in the shade. Young trees may need shade their first summer in ground if your temperatures are 100F+.

  • Winter: Established trees will handle ambient temperatures in the low 20F's. Young trees and potted trees will require cold protection. Frost will always damage this tree, so use your micro-climates to provide shelter to this tree. Watch our "frost protection video" for more details.

  • Growth Structure: This is a fast growing tree, reaching a max height of about 30-60ft. Taller in tropical areas and shorter in non-tropical areas. When planted in ground, it will require about 1 year to fully develop its root system. No top growth during this time is normal.

  • Root system: Vigorous root system. Plant away from structures such as driveways, side walks and sewer pipes. You may not have any problems at the beginning, but you will in the future if you don't give this tree room to grow.

  • Watering: In containers, follow our 50% rule (wait until 50% of the container to dry in between watering). In ground, first season, water shallow and frequently. Stick your finger in the rootball and allow to dry about 6-12" in between watering. Once the tree has been in the ground 1 year+, you will need to deep water. Slow and long watering, but less often. Video on this coming soon.

  • Fertilization: In pots, use any slow release fertilizer. In ground, plain compost, mulch is all you need.

  • Container growing: We don't recommend growing this tree long term in a pot. They become root bound rather quickly and are more susceptible to cold damage during winter. This tree will NOT reach full size in a container, nor will it give you the colorful trunk it's famous for unless it's allowed to fully grow in the ground.

  • Rainbow Eucalyptus personal growing tip: When planting our tree pots in the ground, we recommend frequent watering and some shade for the first summer. Next season it will take full 120f sun all day non-stop. Remember, these  smaller plants  all it takes is 1 day without water for them to die. While this tree is easy to grow, just like you and I, they will die quickly without water.
