  • Unusual, exotic, if that's what you're looking for, this is it!.  Spider Lily is a flowering perennial native to the U.S., Mexico and South America.  Name comes from its flowers, they resemble spider legs when fully opened. Relatively easy to grow, no reason not to add this to your plant collection!.

 

  •  Spider Lily Growing Tips

 

  • Best time to plant: Anytime the night temperatures are at least 50F -and- expected to rise in the next month or so.

 

  • Sun: This plant needs bright, indirect sun light. It will take direct sun light in humid areas such as the tropics.

 

  • Winter: Frost sensitive.

 

  • Root system: Bulb, Fibrous roots.

 

  • Growth structure: This is a perennial. It grows as a bush up to  3-4ft tall.

 

  • Flowering: It flowers once night temperatures are consistently hot. Early summer to fall. 

 

  • Watering: Water frequently. Use the "finger" test to set your watering schedule. (check out our youtube videos for more information).

 

  • Fertilization: In containers, any slow release fertilizer will work. In ground, compost and mulch is all you will ever need. No special fertilizers needed.

 

  • Container Grown: Does well in a pot. 

 

  • Personal Growing Tip: While this plant is rare, surprisingly is easy to grow. Just keep it on the dry side during winter and protect from frost.
